Art Docents Needed!

Volunteer to teach art to classes at Ridgecrest! Training and lessons are provided. We need a large cohort of volunteers for this program. The first training is on December 12 at 1pm

Ridgecrest Volunteers needed at The WORKS

Wednesdays 6:15 - 8
The Works would like Ridgecrest to fill 4 volunteer slots for the 2022-2023 school year. The Works provides free clothing and self-care items to Shoreline youth and students. Volunteer slots are Wednesday night from 6:15 - 8, and you'll be sorting through donated clothing. Here is a link to volunteer, or you can visit shorelinepta.org/the-works to learn more (link to volunteer is at the bottom of the page)

​​Committee and Chair Descriptions
​

STANDING COMMITTEES


The Standing Committee Chairs are appointed by the Co-Presidents and are responsible for activities that occur throughout the school year. Standing Committees include: Membership, Student Enrichment, Ways & Means, Health & Family Services, Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.), Member-At-Large and Website. Member-At-Large is only one individual (and does not lead a committee), but is expected to attend all Board of Directors meetings and has a voice and vote.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR
Standing Committee Member. Two-year commitment. Prepares membership materials, enters members into on-line database, delivers checks to Treasurer, passes out membership cards to families, and writes articles for the newsletter. Prepares applications for State PTA membership awards, if applicable. Attend Board of Directors meetings.
LEGISLATIVE CHAIR
Member of Standing Committee. Determines our membership/school legislative priorities and attends council legislative meetings, reports at monthly Board meetings, writes articles for newsletter, and attends both Legislative Assembly and Focus Day. Attend Board of Directors meetings.
STUDENT ENRICHMENT
Standing Committee Member. Two-year commitment. Set-up and oversee before and after school enrichment program. Write articles for newsletter. Attend Board of Directors meetings.
HEALTH & FAMILY SERVICES
Standing Committee Member. Two-year commitment. Set up and maintain donation site for The Works. Inspect regularly and make sure that donations are delivered to The Works location. Secure volunteers for at least two volunteer shifts per year at The Works. Oversee local unit’s Holiday Basket Drive. January-June choose and oversee collection of Cheer throughout the Year drive items. Attend Student Council meetings and work closely with the kids on the Cheer Program. Oversee Lost and Found area. Attend Board of Directors meetings. Write articles for the newsletter. Communicate with the Shoreline PTA Council’s Health and Family Services Chairperson.
FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (F.A.C.E.)
Standing Committee Member. Two-year commitment. Determine need for ELL families to receive assistance with translation of back to school paperwork in partnership with the school. Oversee Kindergarten welcome events, including playdates, Kinderfest and other orientations. Consider taking over the POD program. Work with front office to maintain supply of New Family Welcome packets & to welcome new families that enroll during the school year. Implement creative ways to engage with populations in our school community who might not otherwise feel included. Attend Board of Directors meetings.
WEBSITE IT & WEBSITE COMMUNICATIONS
Standing Committee Members. Manage and update PTA website lfppta.org, publish Dolphin Blast and maintain any social media sites. Work with committee chairs to keep event information current. Prepare application for Communication Award. Attend Board of Directors meetings.
AD HOC COMMITTEES
Low commitment throughout the school year or onetime event
ART DOCENT COORDINATOR
Organize art docent program within school. Work with administration, staff and individual art docents in each grade level to provide curriculum ideas.
AUCTION
Manage all aspects of the auction and the auction budget. Head the committee that: selects theme, selects date, reserves venue, updates and sends out paperwork, keeps track of procured items, hold regular meetings. Attend and oversee event.
AUCTION PROCUREMENT
Work with Auction Chair and committee on procuring auction items. Attend Auction meetings.
AUDIT budget audit COMMITTEE
Audit the treasurer’s books in January and July.
BOX TOPS
Set up program, send out flyers, and write articles for newsletter. Update school with fundraising totals.
CALENDAR/BULLETIN BOARD
Maintain and update PTA bulletin board/calendar outside PTA Office.
RAMS GEAR
Work with t-shirt company, make and distribute flyers, place orders and distribute purchases. One to two orders during the school year.
GOLDEN ACORN
Design and distribute flyer for nominating people for Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator awards. Solicit nominees and determine award winners, order award pins and arrange for presentation at PTA event. Operates from January through March.
KINDERGARTEN PLAYDATES
Schedule three playdates that take place at the school playground in June and late August. Design and distribute flyer to incoming kindergarten families. Purchase waters , coffee, and treats (for reimbursement). Attend all playdates.
LOST AND FOUND
Keep lost & found rack tidy; notify parents via blast & newsletter when unclaimed items will be taken to The Works for donation (about quarterly). Launder clothing items and donate to The Works. Work with front office
MOVIE NIGHT
Schedule 3-4 movie nights throughout the school year. Try to have movie nights coordinate with new releases. Design and distribute flyers. Write up newsletter blurbs to promote events. Solicit volunteers to staff events.
NATURAL LEADERS
Support immigrant and English Language Learning families by providing outreach and building relationships, working with family advocates and others to provide resources and support, assist in bridging cultural gaps, and serve as a liaison to the wider school community. Operates throughout the school year.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Seek and recruit replacements for outgoing Board of Directors positions for upcoming school year.
Committee operates from November to March.
PICTURE DAY COORDINATOR
Arrange for volunteers to staff picture day. Distribute order forms before picture day. Collect the money and paperwork. Work with photographer throughout the day by taking kids back and forth to class. Distribute picture packets when they come to school.
REFLECTIONS
National PTA art contest. Advertise and promote event by designing /distributing flyers and setting up a bulletin board outside PTA office. Select a date for reception to celebrate participants and reserve the library or other venue. Arrange for category judges. Collect and transport student projects/art work. Organize judges’ notes by participant and order trophies. Operates September through January.
SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS
Work with principal to compile lists needed for each grade. Distribute flier (in winter) for optional purchase of upcoming school year teacher supply lists. Tally orders, coordinate with treasurer for deposit and distribute orders in August.
STUDENT SCIENCE FAIR /Science Night
Organize and promote Student Science Fair. Check with PTA Co-Presidents for event date, reserve multi-purpose room/gym and order tables from district warehouse. Order and distribute tri-fold display boards. Work with teachers on how to help students who need after school work time. This is a student event.
SKATING PARTIES
Arrange parent-supervised skating parties in the fall. Phone Lynnwood Bowl and Skate and reserve dates for primary and intermediate skate parties to take place in October. Design and distribute flyers. Attend both skate parties.
STAFF APPRECIATION
Determine creative ways to show appreciation to school staff throughout the school year. Most common are staff luncheons with food being provided by volunteers. Occurs throughout the school year.
TALENT SHOW
Make and distribute flyer soliciting participation, organize auditions, oversee rehearsals and attend
event. Operates March through April.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Design and distribute flyer asking for parent volunteers for all PTA activities/events. Tally results and design a spread sheet with volunteers listed by activity/event. Help activity/event chairs find volunteers. Call/email volunteers as needed. Coordinate with Principal to provide childcare during conferences. Operates throughout the school year.
WALK-A-THON
Work with school administration and school staff chairperson to solicit volunteers for the school Walk-A-Thon. Spring event, generally every other year.
